Poster realized on the occasion of the exhibition of Pablo Picasso in Vallauris in 1952, locality closely linked to one of the most fertile stages of the artist after the Second World War.
The goat, a recurring motif in Picasso's iconography of these years, refers to Mediterranean mythology and the rural world of the south of France, as well as to the exploration of myth, animality and the primitive force of form. The contrast between the dark background and the light figure reinforces the monumentality of the image, while the hand typography integrated into the composition underlines the fusion between image and word, a distinctive feature of the posters designed directly by the artist.
This poster is part of Picasso's outstanding graphic production linked to exhibitions in Vallauris, considered particularly relevant today for clearly reflecting the creative, experimental and free spirit of his work in the 1950s.
Pablo Picasso was one of the leading figures of 20th century art and co-founder of Cubism. His work is preserved in the Musée Picasso and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. In the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid. In the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) of New York. At the Tate Modern in London. And at the Art Institute of Chicago, among many other institutions of international reference.
