DESCRIPTION

JEAN COCTEAU (France, 1889 - 1963)
"Le Testament d'Orphée".
Silkscreen.
In good condition.
Measurements: 62 × 40 cm.

Original poster made for the film Le Testament d'Orphée (1960), directed by and starring Jean Cocteau, considered his artistic testament and one of the key works of European avant-garde cinema. The image reproduces a line drawing characteristic of the author, in which the face of Orpheus is constructed through spontaneous strokes and primary colors, combining poetry, myth and autobiography.

The graphic language, of apparent simplicity and strong symbolic charge, reflects Cocteau's interdisciplinary conception, in which cinema, literature, drawing and thought merge into a single artistic expression. This poster has a high cultural and documentary value, as it is directly linked to one of the artist's most personal creations.

Jean Cocteau was one of the most multifaceted figures of 20th century French culture: poet, filmmaker, playwright and visual artist. His work is preserved in institutions such as the Musée National d'Art Moderne - Centre Pompidou and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, as well as the Tate in London and the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. His decisive contribution to artistic modernity makes him a key figure in the history of European art, cinema and literature.
