DESCRIPTION
After ANDY WARHOL (Pittsburgh, 1928 - New York, 1987).
"Marilyn Monroe (img - 12)."
SUNDAY B. MORNING édition.
Open edition.
Silkscreen.
Measurements: 91,3 x 91,3 cm.
Work belonging to the well-known series of Sunday B. Morning graphic editions, produced from iconic images of Andy Warhol. Morning, produced from iconic images by Andy Warhol and made following the same technical and chromatic procedures used by the artist in his famous portraits of Marilyn Monroe.
The image reproduces one of the most emblematic motifs of Pop Art, based on the promotional photograph of the actress taken for the film "Niagara" (1953). The frontal face, treated with flat, contrasting colors, reinforces the iconic and serial nature of the image, transforming Marilyn Monroe into a universal symbol of mass culture.
These editions, conceived as open editions, maintain the Warholian pop aesthetics -repetition, appropriation and depersonalization- and have decisively contributed to the international diffusion of his visual imaginary. Although not directly produced by the artist, they occupy a relevant place in the contemporary graphic art market and are especially appreciated for their decorative value and their direct link to Warhol's most recognizable iconography.
