DESCRIPTION
After ANDY WARHOL (Pittsburgh,1928 - New York, 1987).
"Marilyn (Marron Rose)".
SUNDAY B. MORNING édition.
Open edition.
Silkscreen.
Measurements: 91,3 x 91,3 cm.
Work belonging to the series of graphic editions Sunday B. Morning, produced from one of the most iconic portraits made by Andy Warhol: the image of Marilyn Monroe, based on the promotional photograph of the film Niagara (1953).
The composition is characterized by the use of flat and contrasting colors, in this case dominated by brown, pink and blue tones, which intensify the artificial and serial character of the image. The chromatic treatment underlines the tension between glamour and mechanical repetition, central elements in Warhol's work and in the construction of the myth of Marilyn as a cultural icon.
These editions, conceived as open editions, faithfully reproduce the visual language of Pop Art - appropriation of media images, seriality and reduction of the image to a sign - and have played a key role in the international diffusion of Warhol's iconography. Although not directly executed by the artist, they occupy a prominent place in the contemporary graphic art market for their iconic and decorative value.
