DESCRIPTION
BERNARD BUFFET (Paris, 1928 - Tourtour, 1999).
"Les Peintres Témoins De Leur Temps", 1969, Musée Galliera.
Silkscreen.
Measurements: 76 x 52 cm.
Poster realized on the occasion of the exhibition "Les Peintres Témoins de Leur Temps", held at the Musée Galliera (Paris) from January 18 to February 17, 1969, one of the most important institutional exhibitions dedicated to the great protagonists of contemporary French art.
The poster is illustrated with a symbolic and rigorously structured composition, dominated by Bernard Buffet's characteristic incisive drawing and black line. The central motif - a scientific globe and an optical instrument - refers to knowledge, observation and intellectual reflection, recurring themes in his iconography. The strong contrast between the vibrant yellow of the background and the deep blacks intensifies the visual and dramatic tension of the scene.
Bernard Buffet is represented in the collections of the Centre Pompidou and the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, as well as the Musée d'Art Moderne de Troyes and several French fine arts museums. His work is also held in international institutions such as the Tate in London, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, the Art Institute of Chicago and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
