DESCRIPTION
JAUME PLENSA (Barcelona, 1955)
Untitled.1983.
Etching and aquatint on paper, copy 2/20.
Signed and numbered in pencil.
Measurements: 20.5 x 14.5 cm (print); 35 x 50 cm (paper).
This print belongs to the first years of Jaume Plensa's graphic research, a stage in which the artist develops a symbolic language based on geometric structures and essential forms.
The composition is articulated by means of curved planes, incisive lines and triangular elements that seem to float in an atmospheric space constructed through glazes and tonal densities typical of aquatint. The etching provides a precise and structural line, while the areas of shadow and texture generate depth and a sense of latent volume.
Jaume Plensa has had an extensive international career, with outstanding exhibitions such as the retrospective held at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in 2000.
He has received important awards, including the National Plastic Arts Award from the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Medal of Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres from the French Ministry of Culture. His work is part of important international collections and museums such as the MoMA in New York, the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid and the MACBA in Barcelona.
