DESCRIPTION
JAUME PLENSA (Barcelona, 1955)
Untitled.1983.
Etching and aquatint on paper, copy 2/11.
Signed and numbered in pencil.
Measurements: 20.5 x 9.5 cm (print); 35 x 50 cm.
This print, with a very small print run, is part of Jaume Plensa's early period, when the artist developed a graphic language of synthetic and structural character, based on the tension between form, axis and balance.
The vertical composition is organized around a stylized central figure, built by means of triangular planes and dense volumes that generate a totemic silhouette. Around it, loose lines and lighter geometric elements introduce movement and contrast, establishing a dialogue between mass and line.
Jaume Plensa has developed an extensive international career, with outstanding exhibitions such as the retrospective held at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in 2000.
He has received important awards, among them the National Prize of Plastic Arts of the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Medal of Knight of Arts and Letters of the French Ministry of Culture. His work is part of important international collections and museums such as the MoMA in New York, the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid and the MACBA in Barcelona.
