This work, 7000 Querce (1984), is directly linked to one of Joseph Beuys' most emblematic projects, presented at Documenta 7 in Kassel in 1982. Conceived as an ecological and social action, the project consisted of planting seven thousand oak trees, each accompanied by a basalt stone, as an artistic intervention in the public space.
Joseph Beuys is one of the most influential figures of 20th century art. His work encompasses sculpture, performance, drawing and action, articulated around his concept of "social sculpture", which understands art as a process capable of transforming society.
Linked to the Fluxus movement, he developed an intense pedagogical and participatory activity. His thought and practice have had a profound influence on contemporary art.
Beuys is currently represented at the MoMA and the Guggenheim in New York, the Kunstmuseum in Basel, the Hamburger Banhof in Berlin, the Museum of Fine Arts and the Guggeheim in Bilbao and the Tate Gallery in London, among many other contemporary art museums around the world.
