Julio Le Parc is an Argentine sculptor and painter who focuses on both modern Op-art and kinetic art. Le Parc attended the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes Prilidiano Pueyrredón, Buenos Aires, Argentina. He is a founding member of the Groupe de Recherche d'Art Visuel (GRAV) and award-winning artworks. He is also an important figure in Argentine modern art.
Le Parc's work was for its time still avant-garde, innovative, audacious; in it are used as elements of plastic art mainly those that surprise or suggest the gaze -and, through it, the whole subject-. On the other hand, Le Parc seeks to involve the spectator absolutely within the work; for this he resorts to artificial illuminations, specular effects, reflections and movements; for example with mechanical bands that move by hidden mechanical devices, the flow of phosphorescent liquids, the movement of nylon threads, his sculptures in certain cases are genuine installations that envelop the spectators. It is in the sixties that Le Parc is considered both within the group called Op-art and kinetic art, and even conceptual art, although he tries to transcend such movements and makes, mainly, an experimental art.
