“The Indomitable Widow” (Fatto di sangue fra due uomini per causa di una vedova. Si sospettano moventi politici, 1978) was directed by Lina Wertmüller and starred Sophia Loren, Marcello Mastroianni, and Giancarlo Giannini. The film tells the story of a young Sicilian widow in the 1920s who, after her husband’s murder at the hands of the mafia, embarks on a path of revenge.
The film is particularly significant for bringing together three giants of Italian cinema and for being part of the filmography of Lina Wertmüller, one of the first female directors to achieve international recognition, whose critical eye and provocative style marked a pivotal era in European cinema.
