"Still life of flowers with architecture and bird".
Oil on canvas. Relined.
Period frame.
Measurements: 65 x 134 cm; 78 x 146 cm (frame).
This canvas shows a scene in two different planes creating a sensation of depth. These planes are treated by the painter with different tonalities in each one of them, being the main plane darker. This landscape still life shows the image of a bird, a melon and a large vase framed in an architecture of straight and pure lines. Of all the elements that make up the still life, the vase with flowers, emerging from a large pot, stands out widely, these constitute an originality in the Spanish seventeenth century, becoming the painting of flowers in a subgenre of still life in which several Spanish artists specialized.
The influence of the Valencian painter Tomás Hipes can be seen in the search for a symmetrical, orderly presentation. Building the figures by applying successive layers of glazes and linearly delimiting the contours, an action that gives great importance to the achievement of the qualities of the materials represented. The type of lighting used is of a tenebrist character.
