Devotional painting with the representation of a nun of the Dominican order, as we guess by the white habit, symbol of purity and humility. She holds a bible in one hand and in the other hand shows a stigma, represented as a red stain, alluding to her experience of mystical union with Christ. The painting is inspired by iconographic models of Saint Catherine of Siena, one of the most represented figures in Catholic art. St. Catherine was known for her stigmata and mystical visions, which made her a symbol of piety and redemptive suffering. The white habit and the representation of the wounds evoke her traditional iconography, although adapted here for an anonymous or locally canonized female figure.
