DESCRIPTION

Mural fragment from the 17th century.
"Saint in praying position".
Dry mural painting (oil with cow gall).
Measurements: 62,5 x 52 cm.

It is a mural painting to the dry, torn and later consolidated by means of the adhesion of a fabric.
The removal of mural paintings is a very aggressive technique for the painting so it is in disuse and it is tried to be done as little as possible, that is why this type of pieces are not usually found.

Fragment belonging to the right side of the original structure, since the saint appears in an attitude of adoration, directing his posture and gaze to the left side, where the central image would be. The saint appears dressed in tunic and mantle, kneeling, accompanied by other characters and an iconographic attribute: the dragon, an evil animal, the most genuine enemy of God and man. It represents the forces of evil overflowing, the main enemy of the Christian, although because it is endowed with strength and sharp eyesight, it is allegorical of the Vatican and Wisdom (Revelation XII, 7-9; Daniel XIV, 22-27; Jeremiah XIV, 6; Isaiah XXXIV, 13-43). The victory of the dragon entails the conquest of immortality, which necessarily implies reintegration into the center of the human being, that is, the point at which communication with the higher states is established. Animal related to fire, since one of its qualities is to spit fire from its mouth.
