Sober and refined example of the still life genre, so deeply rooted in the Hispanic pictorial tradition since the Golden Age. The composition presents daily objects arranged with balance and simplicity: a bottle of dark glass, a metallic container with handle, a cup, a transparent glass, an elongated bread and several oranges, one of them partially peeled, on a wooden table. The neutral and warm background envelops the scene in an intimate and silent atmosphere.
The work stands out for its study of textures and material qualities: the faint shine of the metal, the transparency of the glass, the roughness of the bread and the vibrant skin of the citrus fruits. The side lighting models the volumes delicately, creating soft hallmarks that add depth without excessive drama.
Overall, the painting reflects the austerity and realism characteristic of the Spanish still life.
