The son of the celebrated David Teniers II and a grandson of the Brueghel family on his mother’s side, David Teniers III inherited a strong artistic tradition that profoundly shaped his work. Probably trained in his father’s workshop, he developed a style that combines the formal elegance derived from masters such as Anton van Dyck and Gonzales Coques with a predilection for genre scenes and peasant settings characteristic of his lineage.
In this work, the artist pays special attention to the depiction of the figures, their gestures, and postures, harmoniously integrating them into an open landscape that serves as the setting for the action. The work stands out for its meticulous execution and the naturalness with which rural life is depicted, free from any excessive idealization. The treatment of light, the rich color palette, and the attention to detail in the clothing reveal the influence of the Flemish school, which was always attentive to the direct observation of reality.
