Pierre Leriche was an artist specialized fundamentally in the paintings of flowers, achieving, as we can verify here, a great mastery in composing, with contrasted palette, sensual bouquets in a language fully inscribed in the Dutch baroque. Although the theme of the still life of flowers has a long tradition in the art world, on this occasion Leriche gives it a totally modern touch: the space disappears, the vase becomes a spot of color and the flowers constitute an exhibition of light and color contained by a fine and delimited line. The artist introduces a stone plinth in the lower right corner of the composition, a resource he uses to insert his signature and the date of the painting in a harmonious way.
