DESCRIPTION
LUCIEN HENRI GRANDGÉRARD (Nancy, France, 1880-1970).
"Female portrait with her back turned", ca. 1925.
Oil on canvas.
Signed on the back.
On the back of the canvas is painted the portrait of a woman.
Measurements: 48 x 39 cm; 67 x 59 x 8 cm (frame).
On the bank of a stream, leaning on a rock, a naked woman crosses her legs and observes the water that gushes in front of her. Lucien Henri Grandgérard works with an impressionist technique, facing the work with a fresh and spontaneous brushstroke, on a composition that is nevertheless firm and meditated.
Unfortunately, we know very little about the biography of Lucien Henri Grandgérard. We do know that he was an artist who prospered in the 20th century. He studied Fine Arts in Nancy and then moved to Paris, where he was a pupil of Bonnat, then Lefebvre and Merson. He also attended the Académie Jullian. He was known for his paintings and engravings and was awarded a gold medal in 1934.
