The scene that we now bid fits into the genre of history. It represents Gaius Julius Caesar with the bloody tunic, lying on his bed after being assassinated on March 15, 44 B.C., day of the ides of Mars, in the curia of Pompey. The scene shows the consul Mark Antony presenting the remains of his deceased friend before an enraged crowd, managing to raise the people against his murderers (Brutus and Cassius among others).
Robert Seuffert was a painter of the German school. He was a disciple of Gebhardt and P. Janssen. He painted numerous decorations for theaters, as well as altar paintings.
