DESCRIPTION
MARIE LAMBERT-CLUYSENAAR (20th century).
"Still life of flowers".
Oil on canvas.
Signed in the lower left corner.
Measurements: 45 x 54 cm; 54 x 63 cm (frame).
In this work, of impressionist inheritance, Marie Cluysenaar leaves aside the descriptive capture of the natural one to emphasize the luminosity and the chromatism of the still life, through an almost fauvist palette in some details, that avoids the opaque colors and plays with the juxtaposition of complementary tones.
Marie Lambert-Cluysenaar was an outstanding Belgian painter and heiress of one of the most prestigious artistic dynasties of her country, being the daughter of the portrait painter André Cluysenaar and descendant of a lineage of renowned architects and painters. In contrast to the academic and monumental style of her predecessors, her work focused on an intimate and vibrant post-impressionism, characterized by a loose brushstroke and a masterful use of color in portraits, landscapes and still lifes. Throughout his extensive career, which spanned almost a century, he managed to modernize the family legacy by bringing a poetic sensibility that captured the atmosphere and light of the everyday, establishing himself as a key figure in understanding the transition from traditional Belgian painting to the expressive freedoms of the twentieth century.
