DESCRIPTION
English school of the 19th century.
"Interior scenes".
Two intaglio prints illuminated under glass.
Measurements: 15,5 x 12 cm; 19,5 x 15 x 2 cm (frame).
Set of two small genre scenes, executed with meticulousness and technical delicacy. In one of them, a couple is in a tavern or wine cellar: she serves herself wine directly from a barrel while he holds a candle; at her feet rests a fanalillo, and in the door another feminine figure also with a candle appears. At the top hangs a piece of game. The second painting shows a woman breastfeeding her child under the affectionate gaze of her husband. The scene takes place next to an open window, through which a neighboring house can be glimpsed. Both compositions reveal a clear influence of Flemish painting of the 17th and 18th centuries, both in the treatment of light and in the attention to domestic details.
