Within the historical settings stood out those of musketeers, a very popular genre among the bourgeois clientele of the 19th century, within a context still inherited from romanticism, which sought in the idealized recreation of the past an escape route of the daily reality.

Father of the painter Josep Renau, José Renau Montoro also worked as a restorer for the Museum and School of Fine Arts of San Carlos in Valencia, the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Carlos, the Literary University of Valencia, the City Council of Valencia and private individuals.
