DESCRIPTION
Spanish school of the late nineteenth century.
"Battle in North Africa".
Oil on canvas.
Apocryphal signature (Fortuny) in the lower right corner.
It presents some faults in the gilded carved frame.
Measurements: 13 x 26 cm:; 29 x 42 cm (frame).
Small oil painting of vibrant character and loose brushstroke, inscribed in the Spanish orientalist tradition of the late nineteenth century, when the campaigns of North Africa inspired numerous compositions of military and exotic theme. The work evokes the imagery popularized by Mariano Fortuny and his circle, with a fast and atmospheric execution, closer to a workshop sketch than to an academic narrative scene.
