DESCRIPTION

JOSEP OBIOLS PALAU (Barcelona, 1894 - 1967).
"Child of the pitcher".
Oil on canvas.
With Dau al Set Gallery label on the back.
Measurements: 101 x 50 cm; 103,5 x 52,5 cm (frame).

Painter, draftsman and engraver, José Obiols was a disciple of Joaquín Torres García in the School of Decoration of Barcelona, and member of the Group Courbet and of the Cercle Artístic de Sant Lluc, as well as academic of Fine Arts. An outstanding representative of Noucentisme, he participated in the 1929 Barcelona International Exposition, painting the interiors of the National Palace of Montjuic, was a teacher and produced numerous illustrations for books and magazines. During the war he designed paper money for the Department of Economy and Finance of the Generalitat de Catalunya. He is currently represented in the Library of Catalonia and other public and private collections.
