DESCRIPTION
RAMÓN GARRIDO MÉNDEZ (Valencia, 1868 - 1940).
Two landscape scenes.
Oil on panel.
Signed.
Measurements: 23 x 38 cm, and 22 x 36.5 cm.
Artist formed in the School of Fine Arts of San Carlos of Valencia, as well as in that of San Fernando of Madrid, acceding later to a teaching position in the field of the drawing. Garrido's artistic career developed by capturing the essence and luminosity of the Mediterranean landscapes, in addition to cultivating a costumbrista theme close to the line of José Benlliure.
He cultivated the religious theme and landscape, gaining great recognition and success within it, but also studied the genre of portraiture among the bourgeoisie and nobility of his day. However, more distant from the previously mentioned themes, we find this watercolor entitled "Diana the Huntress". The sketch was made for the elaboration of one of the floats that would participate in the Battle of the flowers of Valencia in the early twentieth century. This is expressed by the author on the back of the same design.
He was awarded in contests such as the Regional Exhibition of 1909, the National Exhibition of Valencia in 1910, as well as in the Painting Exhibition of Madrid in 1911.
His works can be found in the art collections of various cultural institutions and government agencies, as well as belonging to private collections.
