DESCRIPTION
CORNELIS KUYPERS (Gorinchem, Netherlands, 1864 - Soest, Netherlands, 1932).
"Wooded landscape."
Oil on canvas.
Signed.
Measurements: 38 × 55 cm.; 47 × 63 cm. with frame.
Wooded landscape of autumnal atmosphere, in which Cornelis Kuypers builds an intimate and enveloping scene from a warm palette of ochers, browns and golds. The water in the foreground, with its broken reflections, introduces depth and luminosity in a composition dominated by the vertical rhythm of the trunks and the thickness of the forest. The dense and expressive brushstrokes reinforce the sensation of humidity, gloom and natural vibration, while the clearings in the background open the scene towards a twilight.
Cornelis Kuypers was a Dutch painter and watercolorist, specializing in landscapes and water views. Initially trained at the Kunstnijverheidsschool Quellinus in Amsterdam and together with his father, the landscape painter Jan Kuypers, he developed a work linked to the second generation of the Hague School, characterized by naturalism, tonal sobriety and the sensitive capture of light.
