DESCRIPTION
FERNAND DUBUIS (Sion, Switzerland, 1908 - 1991). "Le soldat, Verssione II, Woysegh", 1988. Oil on canvas. Signed, titled and dated on the reverse. Measurements: 129 x 64 cm., 134 x 69 cm. (framework). Fernand Dubuis was born in Sion in 1908. After a few months at the Lausanne Drawing School, he moved to Paris at the end of 1930 and until 1933 he attended various painting academies (Colarossi, Ranson, Grande Chaumière). In 1934, he was in Maurice Denis's studio. He crossed his Parisian training with study trips to Rome, Florence and Venice. From 1940 to 1945 he was in Geneva. At the end of the war, he returned to Paris. From 1952 he lived six months a year in Gordes (Vaucluse), which he only left to move to the Château de Tertre in Normandy, owned by Roger Martin du Gard. At first seduced by Cubism and the theories of Severini that he met, he evolved towards a pictorial art where the only values of colour should, without reference to nature, give life to the painting.
