Practically self-taught painter, Santiago Montes worked in Vigo. He began in post-impressionism. For years he traveled around Europe, living for long periods in Germany. In Heildelberg he made a series of drawings, with a romantic line, which he extended to Nürenberg and other cities, and his painting evolved towards informalist modes. His exhibitions are distant, although when he does them, as in Madrid in 1991, he surprises for their quality, for his good work. He is represented in the Museum of Vigo, in the Museum of Pontevedra and in other Spanish provincial museums.
