DESCRIPTION
SOLANGE BERTRAND (Montigny-lès-Metz (1913- 2011).
Landscape
Oil on canvas.
Measurements: 65 x 80 cm; 77 x 83 cm (frame).
Early in his career, Bertrand opted for expressionist painting but later evolved towards what can be described as relative abstraction. Bertrand during his long career mixed all forms of painting, blending styles and periods and paying only a little attention to dates. In the immediate post-war period, he organized exhibitions regularly (Salon d'Automne, Salon de Mai, Comparaison, Salon Women Painters and Sculptors). His first solo exhibition was at the Galerie Pascaud in Paris in 1947. Many other solo exhibitions followed for the artist, mainly in Paris and Metz, but also in the other French departments and abroad.2 Bertrand won some awards, such as the Academic Master in 1985. In May 2005, a sale of 108 of his works achieved success at the Hôtel Drouot His work is today in public collections (Museums of Metz, Nancy, Musée Picasso in Antibes, Musée Chéret in Nice, etc.), as well as in many private collections. Bertrand died on January 22, 2011 at the age of 97.
