Fedor Ganz was a writer and painter born in Hamburg in 1910, although he grew up in Geneva, Switzerland, and studied at the Sorbonne in France. From the 1930s until his death in 1983, he was active both politically and artistically, exhibiting mainly paintings and publishing political essays and poetry in Spanish, French and German. He led a rather nomadic life, traveling frequently in South America, Europe and North America since his university days. Part of this travel was due to his work as a translator for the United Nations and other diplomatic and cultural entities.
In 1934, he published his Ensayo marxista de la historia de España, which received positive reviews, and one of his poetry collections had a prologue by Nobel Prize winner Gabriela Mistral. During his youth, he joined the surrealist and Dadaist circles in Paris and exhibited his pictorial work throughout his life. In the 1960s, he decided to regain his German nationality.
