As we appreciate in "Still life with flowers and bowl", Olaf Rude was a master of color. His works are characterized by a bold color palette and the use of geometric and stylized forms that give his paintings a sense of solidity and structure and bring him closer to Cezannian postulates.
Olaf Rude trained at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. During his formative years he was exposed to European artistic currents, including Impressionism, Expressionism and Cubism, which influenced his artistic evolution. He is especially famous for his large landscapes of Bornholm, the island where he was born and to which he was always very attached. His work was exhibited at the first exhibition in Grønningen in 1915. Today his work is in important collections and museums in Denmark, such as the National Gallery of Denmark (SMK) and the Bornholms Kunstmuseum (Bornholm Art Museum).
