From an early age, Emilio Payés Carranza showed a strong inclination for painting, beginning to create his first works at the age of fourteen. At the age of eighteen he studied at the School of Arts and Crafts in Alicante, where he was a disciple of the painter Edmundo Jordá, who had a notable influence on his artistic development.

His pictorial style is characterized by an impressionist sensibility that is reflected especially in urban scenes, many of them set in the streets of Paris. He frequently uses the palette knife and a palette rich in vibrant tones to depict cafes, strollers, carriages, stations and rainy landscapes. Texture and light play a key role in his compositions, which evoke a nostalgic and poetic atmosphere.

Throughout his career, Emilio Payés has exhibited in multiple galleries both in Spain and abroad. In 1995 he participated in an exhibition at the Galerie Soria, in Châteauroux (France), and in 1996 he exhibited his work at the Galerie Hispaluz in Concepción (Chile). His work has been especially valued by international collectors and is part of private collections in countries such as Japan, Germany, Saudi Arabia and the United States. Among the owners of his works are members of Arab royalty and European aristocrats.
