DESCRIPTION

"Canary Islands.
Oil on board.
It presents faults in the pictorial surface.
Measurements: 118 x 142.5 cm; 137 x 162 cm (frame).
The work presents a solemn panorama of the Canary Islands, conceived in a monochrome register of intense ochre tones that give it a timeless and almost sculptural air. The composition, ample and scenographic, recalls the mural solutions of José María Sert: the arrangement of the masses, the play of light and shadow and the drama of chiaroscuro lead the eye through a space that seems monumental. The volumes emerge from a dense and vibrant atmosphere, as if the pictorial matter itself became relief.
In the lower band, a clearly delimited band bears the inscription "Las Canarias", which functions as a visual threshold. In this sense, the piece connects with the pictorial currents of the 1940s that sought to fix in the collective memory the image of a territory and a people, integrating landscape, tradition and sense of belonging.
