Painter specialized in the feminine figure, pediatrician of profession, Josep Lluís Arimany also captured the landscapes of the Montseny, and also made some work of religious thematic. He started painting in a completely self-taught way when he was a child. Years later, when he was about twenty years old, he won a first prize that served as a definitive stimulus to devote himself fully to painting. However, due to family pressures, he studied medicine, later finding in them a second vocation. He then dedicated himself to the illustration of medical books, and began to paint portraits, already counting important personalities among his clientele. On his return to Catalonia, however, he focused on medical practice and practically abandoned painting for twenty years. Nevertheless, in 1944 he participated in the VII Art Exhibition of La Garriga. He resumed his painting practice when an international painting award for doctors was announced, in which he won the Gold Medal (1969). He then returned to painting portraits until 1973, when he held his first individual exhibition in his native Granollers. Since then he has shown his work regularly, and in 1987 the magazine "Gal Art" dedicated a monographic issue to him.
