In the 30's many artists returned to figuration, although without completely abandoning the formal and chromatic conquests of those movements. In this context, this work reflects a modern sensibility that dialogues with both tradition and experimentation.
The rural landscape depicted shows a formal simplification and an expressive treatment of color that refers to Post-Impressionism and Expressionism. The loose and visible brushstroke, together with the slight deformation of proportions and chromatic intensity, prioritize atmosphere and emotion over descriptive realism. The color is not limited to reproducing nature, but builds the mood of the scene, as well as a certain influence of Fauvism in the chromatic freedom and in the valuation of color as a structural element.
