The painting of Joaquín Rubio Camín (1929-2005) is, above all, the work of a geometrician of space. Although he is recognized worldwide as one of the great Spanish sculptors of the 20th century (member of the avant-garde group Los Sesenta), his painting is the fundamental basis of his aesthetic thought.
The sculptor, painter, designer and photographer Joaquín Rubio Camín has an extensive body of work, based on the use of metal (iron, bronze, steel...) and wood such as oak. From the sixties, he turned to what would be his most recognized activity, sculpture, receiving, in 1962, the Grand Prize for Sculpture of the First National Contest of Plastic Arts. In 2001 he was awarded the Silver Medal of the Principality of Asturias. In London, he met Jorge Oteiza, of whom he declared himself an admirer and with whom he shared a friendship.
