Marcel Dyf is known for his works of figures, flowers and still lifes, although his fame is mainly due to his landscapes, which are imbued with a remarkably beautiful atmosphere. Vases such as the one we are now bidding for, which constitute a recurring and highly representative theme in his language, stand out for their luminous coloring, loose brushwork and sensitivity to light, heir to impressionism. They had, and still have today, a great acceptance in the art market.

The French impressionist painter Marcel Dreyfus, originally from Paris, spent his childhood in Normandy, specifically in the towns of Ault, Deauville and Trouville. Although he began his professional career as an engineer, he soon decided to follow his vocation as a painter. In 1922, he moved to Arles, where he perfected his art and established his own studio. Among his works are the frescoes he painted in the town halls of Saint-Martin-de-Crau and Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, as well as in the Arlaten Museum and in the dining room of the Collège Ampère, all located in Arles. He also contributed to the design of windows for the Église Saint-Louis in Marseille. In 1935, he moved into Maximilien Luce's former studio on Avenue du Maine in Paris. During World War II, faced with the German invasion of France, he returned to Arles and joined the Resistance in Corrèze and Dordogne. He then returned to Paris and finally settled in Saint-Paul-de-Vence. From the 1950s, he alternated between Paris in winter and Cannes in summer, attracting the attention of American collectors. His work was exhibited and marketed in various galleries both in Paris, including the Galerie Petrides, the Salon d'Automne, the Salon des Tuilleries and the Salon des Artistes Français, and in other cities such as Cannes, Nice, Marseille and Strasbourg. Internationally, his pieces were presented at the Frost & Reed Gallery in London.
