The relationship between Víctor Mira and the music of Johann Sebastian Bach constitutes one of the spiritual and conceptual axes of his work. Mira felt a deep admiration for Bach, whose music he considered a form of spiritual architecture capable of ordering emotional chaos. At various points in his career, especially from the late eighties and during the nineties, the painter developed series directly inspired by the structure and intensity of Bach's compositions, more than illustrating the music, Mira sought to translate pictorially its internal logic: rhythm, repetition, superposition of voices, and the tension between order and emotion.
Sculptor, painter, engraver and writer, Mira made his debut in Zaragoza at the age of eighteen. After spending some time between Madrid and Germany, in 1977 he settled in Barcelona. In 1979 he had his first solo exhibition in Munich and the following year he showed his work at the George Staempfli Gallery in New York. From then on his international career took off, with exhibitions in Europe, the United States and South America. In 2003, shortly before his death, he received the award for best living Spanish artist at the ARCO Fair. Mira's works are preserved in museums and private collections around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, the MACBA, the Fine Arts Museums of Vitoria and Zaragoza, the Beulas Foundation in Huesca, and the ICO Collections Museum in Madrid.
