The painting is constructed by means of wide areas of earthy color, ochers, muted pinks, grays and browns, applied with a technique that privileges texture and the trace of the gesture. The brushstrokes and drags generate a vibrant surface, where forms seem to emerge and dissolve simultaneously. In the center of the composition, organic and fragmented structures are perceived, which may vaguely refer to eroded landscapes, mineral remains or biological forms, although never fixed in a recognizable image. This visual ambiguity is characteristic of 20th century lyrical abstraction, whose interest lay more in perceptual and emotional experience than in narrative.
Stylistically, the work can be related to trends developed between the 1950s and 1970s, when many American artists explored the autonomy of gesture, the materiality of painting and the psychological dimension of color. In this context, the painting dialogues with searches close to Action Painting and Color Field, although with a more intimate and material inclination. We can also perceive affinities with European Informalism, especially in the eroded treatment of the surface and in the evocation of interior landscapes.
