Work inscribed in the Madrid school of the twentieth century, which offers an intimate and structured vision of the urban landscape of the capital. From an elevated viewpoint, the composition organizes a network of roofs, chimneys and bell towers that turn the city into a rhythmic succession of planes and volumes. The architecture here loses its descriptive precision to become pictorial matter, constructed with dense brushstrokes and a warm palette dominated by ochers, earths and reddish tones.
The painting reflects some of the characteristic features of the Madrid landscape tradition of the 20th century: the interest in daily urban life, the dry atmosphere of the city and a synthetic interpretation of forms. Far from monumentality, the artist focuses his attention on the visual texture of the roofs and the vibration of light that unifies the scene, evoking a silent city observed from contemplation.
In this work, the superimposition of planes and the architectural simplification give the landscape an almost abstract quality, where the rhythm of the roofs and towers defines the very identity of the city.
