Port scene of great expressive force that represents a group of boats stranded in a port or shipyard, wrapped in a warm and vibrant atmosphere. The painting stands out for its gestural and dynamic treatment of the pictorial matter, a characteristic feature of certain modern trends developed in Europe during the 20th century.
The composition is organized by a diagonal accumulation of boats and wooden structures that generates visual tension and a sensation of movement. The boats, represented with simplified forms and broad contours, are superimposed one on top of the other, creating depth and compositional rhythm. The barely insinuated human figures add scale and reinforce the everyday, working character of the scene.
In stylistic terms, the work reflects the interest of the Dutch school of the 20th century in reinterpreting traditional scenes, ports, canals, boats and urban landscapes in a modern and emotional language.
