The glamour, sophistication and modern elegance stand out strongly in this canvas starring a young woman with an intense gaze holding a chestnut, which has become a symbol of refinement and mystery. The female figure is idealized by a geometric and stylized face, with smooth and polished skin, very fine eyebrows and a cold and restrained expression, features that perfectly synthesize the French Art Deco aesthetics of the thirties. The woman also embodies the new feminine ideal of modernity: independent, cosmopolitan and enigmatic, far from traditional models and close to the sophisticated universe of European high society. The influence of the avant-garde is perceived in the simplification of forms, in the almost sculptural character of the face and in the refined balance between elegance, geometry and decorative luxury that defines the art deco language. Of special relevance is the exuberant plant environment in which the sitter is situated, an ornamental display of leaves, textures and autumnal tones where the artist demonstrates an extraordinary decorative virtuosity. Each element of the composition is carefully silhouetted with geometrical forms and linear rhythms typical of the Art Deco aesthetic, fundamental in the development of French decorative art between the wars. Shapes tend towards geometric essentialism and color is applied in flat, contrasting areas, creating a sophisticated, elegant image that is deeply representative of the visual taste of the 1930s.
