Lee Reynolds Burr was an American painter and entrepreneur best known for founding Vanguard Studios in Beverly Hills in the 1960s, a studio that produced thousands of decorative paintings signed "Lee Reynolds", "Reynolds" or "Lee Burr". Although many works were done by studio artists under his direction, Burr developed an aesthetic closely tied to modernism and mid-20th century interior design. His style is varied, but is generally associated with mid-century modern, decorative abstract expressionism and contemporary California painting. His works often feature intense colors, broad brushstrokes and compositions intended to create visual impact in modern interiors. He also produced landscapes, seascapes, flowers, urban scenes and geometric abstractions. Many pieces are ornamental and atmospheric rather than experimental, seeking balance, elegance and accessible modernity.
