José María Morató studied at the Sant Jordi School and won a medal at his first exhibition in 1940 at the Reus Artists’ Salon. Since then, he has also exhibited his work in Tarragona, Reus, Barcelona, Madrid, and Paris. He was awarded the Tapiró Medal by the Tarragona Provincial Council in 1944, the Painting Prize at the 1952 Exhibition of Contemporary Religious Art, the Viscount de Güell Drawing Prize in the mid-20th century, the Vilaltella Medal from Lleida in 1963, the Gold Medal of the Town of Palamós in 1971, among others. A farmhouse takes center stage in this rural landscape steeped in an autumnal atmosphere. Morató composes his work using broad brushstrokes of an almost geometric nature. The colors do not blend but rather overlap, giving the work as a whole a vibrant appearance. In addition to numerous private collections, his works are held by the Fundació Vila Casas, the Sculpture Garden at the Pueblo Español in Barcelona, the Fran Daurel Foundation for Contemporary Art in Barcelona, and others.
