Painter of urban and natural landscapes, José Catalá began his career in the nineties, making his individual debut in 1993 with an exhibition held at the National Railway Museum in Madrid. Since then he has held personal exhibitions in his hometown (Toisón room in 1995, Infantas in 1996 and 2000, Museo del Ferrocarril in 1997, 1998 and 2009; Gaudí room in 2005 and Retiro Station exhibition hall in 2012) and in San Lorenzo de El Escorial (Floridablanca room, 2007, 2010 and 2013). He has also participated in group exhibitions held in Spain, Portugal, Belgium and Sweden, and has won awards such as the medal of honor in the BMW Award (1995, 1997, 1998) or the Acquisition Prize of the National Competition of Valdepeñas (1998, 1999). Currently, works by José Catalá are kept in the Infanta Elena Museum in Tomelloso and in various private collections.
