DESCRIPTION

BETO DE VOLDER (Argentina, 1962).
Untitled.
Acrylic on MDF.
Provenance: Palatina Gallery (Buenos Aires-Argentina).
Measurements: 60 x 60 cm.
Beto de Volder is a contemporary artist recognized for his work around abstraction, drawing and geometric structures with a strong playful and perceptive character. He studied at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes "Manuel Belgrano" in Buenos Aires between 1986 and 1989 and later expanded his training at the Museo de Arte Moderno in Buenos Aires. During the nineties he was an active part of the Argentine art scene, participating in exhibitions at the Rojas Cultural Center and receiving a scholarship from the Antorchas Foundation to join the historic Taller de Barracas directed by Luis Fernando Benedit and Pablo Suárez.
In 1993 he won the First Prize for Painting at the III Biennial of Young Art of Buenos Aires. After a period of intense artistic production, he temporarily abandoned the practice in the late nineties, resuming it in 2000 with the exhibition Antología. Since then she has developed a sustained trajectory of solo exhibitions in galleries and spaces in Buenos Aires such as Zavaleta Lab, Sonoridad Amarilla and Palatina.
De Volder's work is characterized by the use of drawing as a conceptual and formal core. His compositions, constructed by means of undulating lines, spirals, reliefs and openwork forms, explore the relationship between gestural automatism and rational structure. Through materials such as graphite, enameled MDF and industrial color, the artist develops dynamic surfaces close to optical art, kineticism and certain traditions of geometric and surrealist abstraction. Many of his pieces also incorporate an interactive and playful component, such as his removable works called "sana-heads", conceived for the viewer to reorganize the compositions.
In addition to his artistic production, he worked in the assembly team of the Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires (MALBA) and participated in curatorial projects and recovery of contemporary works. His work is part of important public and private collections, including those of MALBA, the Castagnino Museum + MACRO, the Cisneros Collection and the Benetton Collection, consolidating his place within contemporary Argentine abstraction.
