An urban scene with an ironic tone and a contemporary view of local customs, centered on a storefront in Barcelona’s Eixample district. The composition contrasts the elegant sheen of the classic car, the figure of the woman in front of the window, and the presence of the dog, creating an image rich with references to the social and visual identity of the Catalan bourgeoisie.
Rodríguez Navinès works with a loose, expressive brushstroke, with clear pictorial roots, in which drawing plays an essential role. The reflections of the car, the objects in the shop window, and the “Eixample” sign situate the scene within a recognizable urban landscape, straddling everyday observation, neighborhood memory, and subtle social critique.
Xavier Rodríguez Navinès has been active as an artist since 1996, working in illustration, painting, and sculpture. He began his training with the painter Joan Capella and later studied at the Joso School in Barcelona and at the Llotja School of Applied Arts and Artistic Trades, where he was a student of Lluís Grau Mestres. He was also a member of the Cercle Artístic de Sant Lluc and completed courses at Eina and Casa Elizalde.
Throughout his career, he has participated in competitions and projects in illustration, painting, and sculpture, including the Joan Ramon Masoliver International Painting Competition, the Bologna International Children’s Book Illustration Competition, and the reconstruction of the central dome of the Gran Teatre del Liceu. He has held solo exhibitions and undertaken painting projects in Barcelona, Tossa de Mar, Cape Verde, Montcada i Reixac, Badalona, and other locations. His work is characterized by strong draftsmanship, direct figuration, an interest in urban life, and an elaborate, vivid image with a strong narrative component.
