Pair of silver candlesticks of one light, conceived following a classicist design typical of the Carlos IV style. Each piece has a circular stepped base, with a wide development, which provides stability and visual presence to the whole. From it rises a truncated cone-shaped shaft, articulated by rings and grooved areas that evoke the classical column and provide rhythm and verticality to the composition.
The upper zone ends in a candle holder of sober and balanced lines, maintaining the formal coherence of the whole. The decoration concentrates on discrete elements of classical inspiration, such as moldings, grooves and small stylized leaves in the transition between base and shaft, avoiding any ornamental excess. This language fully responds to the refined and rational taste of the period, where symmetry, proportion and the nobility of the material acquire absolute prominence.
The Charles IV style developed at a time of great splendor of craftsmanship, characterized by technical excellence and the search for a restrained elegance, with clear neoclassical roots. This pair of candelabra is a good example of this aesthetic ideal, combining functionality, formal refinement and quality of execution, typical of the silverware of the late eighteenth century.
