DESCRIPTION
Neoclassical scribe, late eighteenth century - early nineteenth century.

Weight: 1.256 g.
Measurements: 21 x 31 x 16 cm.
Writing desk made entirely in silver, consisting of an oval tray with openwork gallery and three main elements arranged symmetrically: two lateral inkwells and a central body of larger size. The whole is elevated on four curved profile feet, reinforcing its visual lightness and formal elegance.
The lateral inkwells have cylindrical bodies with vertical striated decoration, topped by lids crowned with carved vegetal elements in the form of laurel. The central element adopts a bell-shaped form, with a long turned top that accentuates the verticality and hierarchizes the composition. The whole is supported on a richly worked tray, with an openwork railing decorated with repeated geometric motifs and pearl friezes.
The decoration fully responds to the neoclassical language, combining smooth surfaces with striated areas and ornamental elements of classical inspiration, such as garlands, laurels and regular moldings. It is a writing desk conceived both as a functional object and as a representational piece, reflecting the aesthetic refinement and the high technical level reached by European goldsmiths in the transition from the 18th to the 19th century.
