As part of its ongoing support for art and culture worldwide, Montblanc has recognized the exceptional contributions of today's patrons of the arts since 1992 with the Montblanc Award for Culture. Coinciding with the Award, a unique limited edition writing instrument inspired by a historical patron is commissioned each year to honor contemporaries.
Montblanc on the occasion of the founding of "Montblanc de la Culture", in 2003 launches the Montblanc "Nicolaus Copernicus" fountain pen in a Limited Edition for the whole world of 4810 units.
Nicolaus Copernicus was born in Poland on February 19, 1473 and died on May 24, 1543. He was the astronomer who formulated the first Heliocentric Theory of the Solar System. he is one of the key figures of the scientific revolution in the Renaissance era. Copernicus, a great scholar of the scientific revolution, was a mathematician, astronomer, jurist, physicist, Catholic clergyman, governor, administrator, military leader, diplomat and economist. The Heliocentric Model is considered one of the most important theories in the history of Western science.
