DESCRIPTION
Napoleon III portico clock, second half of the nineteenth century.
Boulle type marquetry in walnut, bronze and brass.
With pendulum.
Presents faults.
Measurements: 56 × 31 × 12 cm.
Table clock of architectural structure, characteristic of the Napoleon III style, made of dark walnut wood and richly ornamented with Boulle type marquetry, combining inlaid brass trimmed and enamels.
The whole is composed of a pediment with a mixtilinear profile and a base of puffed contour, both decorated with chiseled brass borders and floral motifs enameled in white and silver tones, arranged in bouquets that run along the front pilasters, the base and the feet.
The circular white enameled dial, with Roman numerals, is framed by a gilded bronze molding and supported by the characteristic pendulum system, also gilded.
A representative piece of the eclectic and ornamental taste of the French Second Empire, which combines architectural elegance with the decorative richness of Boulle marquetry, heir to the luxurious tradition of the seventeenth century reinterpreted under the Napoleonic refinement of the nineteenth century.
